It's been a productive month of February for three-star athlete Wandale Robinson. On February 19th he clocked a 4.22, 40-yard-dash on the stopwatch at the Best of the Midwest combine. While he was on his lunch break Toledo extended an offer. Three days later Northwestern, a school he has high interest in, did the same. On the 24th, Robinson took a visit to Duke, who he named as one of his top schools, and told the staff he plans on enrolling early. Today, Scott Frost and Nebraska have extended a full ride.
The Nebraska offer may very well be the catalyst that ignites Robinson's recruitment on the national level.
At the Best of the Midwest Robinson stated that his top three schools were Duke, Virginia, and Kentucky, in no particular order. That was nine days ago, an eternity in the recruitment of a high school junior with his speed and film who plans to enroll early.
"Nebraska and Northwestern have given me a lot to think about with these offers and I'm going to have to visit them this spring or summer and give them a serious look," said Robinson. "I was waiting on Northwestern to offer, so when they came to my school and told me I had an offer I was excited and knew I had to give them a look. I like what Coach Fitz (NW head coach Pat Fitzgerald) has going on there, they're headed in the right direction."
Robinson also was excited when the Huskers offered.
"Well UCF's was recruiting me when coach Frost (now Nebraska's head coach Scott Frost) was there. I thought they were going to offer after the season but then the coaching change happened and he (Frost) went to Nebraska," mentioned Robinson. "I think I could be a good fit in coach Frost's system and make a lot plays. I'm definitely looking forward to getting out there and meeting the staff and seeing the facilities and everything."
He is also still high on Duke.
"Duke's staff is one of the best I've been around and the visit was extremely nice. The atmosphere of the place was something I could see myself being a part of," said Robinson."
His hometown Kentucky Wildcats are also still very much in the picture.
"UK shows a lot of love. Coach Schlaraman and Coach Smith text me often. I feel like I'm a priority to them. I'd love to play for them and represent my home state," claimed Robinson.
One school with a tie to Robinson's father also has the Western Hills standout on their radar and the interest is mutual.
"I plan on visiting FSU soon, maybe in March. My dad played with Willie Taggart at Western Kentucky and they've seen my film and want me to visit. If they offer I'm definitely going to give them a hard look," announced Robinson.
Robinson also said Virginia is still in the mix and he plans to visit campus again sometime in the spring.
Dave's Take: Robinson jumped the gun a little bit by naming three leaders considering his recruiting options are just taking shape. It appears that Kentucky and Duke stand out the most with UVA not far behind but the Nebraska and Northwestern offers have definitely given the three star a reason to keep his options open. His family ties to FSU's staff are also an interesting dynamic which will make them a tough competitor in his recruitment if they prioritize him. It appears this one is far from over and the fact he is on track to enroll early will make him an even more coveted prospect than he already is. In a few months this article may be laughably outdated as there is a good possibility his offer list blows up.
