The 2017 class is shaping up to be extremely solid with a lot of talented freshman to be. Kentucky Preps will be taking a look at some of the best freshman girls to be in a series called Freshman Spotlight. We'll be asking each of the players 20 questions to get to know some of them as they start their high school career.
2017 Franklin County Guard/Forward Rebecca Cook averaged 8.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.3 steals per game last season for Franklin County. Unfortunately she had to sit this Summer with a hand injury and thus didn't get to play with her Kentucky Premier team.
Q. (Donald Yaste): What Highschool will you be attending?
A. (Rebecca Cook): Franklin County High School.
Q. (DY): How has this Summer prepared you for this coming high school season?
A. (RC): I fractured my hand during a ball game this summer so I was unable to play with my KY Premier team, but that injury allowed me to work on using my non-dominant hand and improving my physical strength.
Q. (DY): What expectations do you have for yourself going into this high school season?
A. (RC): I hope develop into an impact player that my teammates can count on.
Q. (DY): What are your expectations for your team?
A. (RC): Our team goal is to win our region and make a good run in the state tournament.
Q. (DY): What is your current height and weight?
A. (RC): I'm 5'11 and 140 pounds.
Q. (DY): Describe your style of play?
A. (RC): Quick and aggressive. I like running fast breaks and putting pressure on the ball.
Q. (DY): What are you strengths?
A. (RC): My defensive play, passing and I feel like I have the ability to see and run the floor.
Q. (DY): What are your weaknesses?
A. (RC): I'm currently working on improving my three-point shooting.
Q. (DY): What do you hope to accomplish through playing basketball?
A. (RC): I hope to play basketball in college and eventually go into sports broadcasting.
Q. (DY): Have any colleges reached out to you at this point? If so who?
A. (RC): Yes. Dayton, Marquette, Gardner-Webb and several others.
Q. (DY): What is your greatest fear?
A. (RC): A long term injury that will keep me from reaching my goals.
Q. (DY): What is your best characteristic?
A. (RC): The ability to get along well with others.
Q. (DY): What is your nickname and how did you get it?
A. (RC): Cookie Monster because my last name is Cook and I eat a lot!
Q. (DY): What is one hidden talent you possess?
A. (RC): If you give me a subject and the name of a song, I can immediately sing new lyrics to that song about your subject.
Q. (DY): What is your favorite quote?
A. (RC): "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart" Psalms 37:4
Q. (DY): What is your favorite food?
A. (RC): Pasta.
Q. (DY): Who is your biggest role model?
A. (RC): My Grandad Smith because he played college basketball and has always helped me to improve my game.
Q. (DY): What's your dream school?
A. (RC): I would love to play at Louisville but ideally any school that would help me to develop personally and reach my goals.
Q. (DY): Who is your dream coach?
A. (RC): Jeff Walz.
Q. (DY): Whose game to you model yours after?
A. (RC): No one really. I have just always tried to be the best player I can be.
