The 2017 class is shaping up to be extremely solid with a lot of talented freshman to be. Kentucky Preps will be taking a look at some of the best freshman to be in a series called Freshman Spotlight. We'll be asking each of the players 20 questions to get to know some of them as they start their high school career.
2017 North Laurel Forward Bryson Asher is one of the few true big men in the 2017 class at this point. He played both junior varsity and varsity last season for North Laurel as an 8th grader. He averaged 2 points per game on the varsity level. He also played with the 8th Grade D1 State Champs Derby State and averaged 5.6 points, 7 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game.
Q. (Donald Yaste): What High School will you be attending?
A. (Bryson Asher): North Laurel.
Q. (DY): How has this Summer prepared you for this coming high school season?
A. (BA): I played AAU Basketball with Derby State Thoroughbreds and played in the nationals at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex against some good talent. Also played in summer games with North Laurel and went to instructional basketball camps.
Q. (DY): What expectations do you have for yourself going into this high school season?
A. (BA): I want to keep improving throughout the year.
Q. (DY): What are your expectations for your team?
A. (BA): Our goal is to win the 13th region tournament and go back to state.
Q. (DY): What is your current height and weight?
A. (BA): I'm 6' 7" 190 pounds.
Q. (DY): Describe your style of play?
A. (BA): I can play inside or out.
Q. (DY): What are you strengths?
A. (BA): My strengths would be rebounding and shooting.
Q. (DY): What are your weaknesses?
A. (BA): I would say ball handling.
Q. (DY): What do you hope to accomplish through playing basketball?
A. (BA): I hope to receive a scholarship and develop my skills to play at the next level.
Q. (DY): Have any colleges reached out to you at this point? If so who?
A. (BA): None at this point.
Q. (DY): What is your greatest fear?
A. (BA): Suffering an injury that would not let me play basketball again.
Q. (DY): What is your best characteristic?
A. (BA): My personality and desire to get better.
Q. (DY): What is your nickname and how did you get it?
A. (BA): My coach calls me "B", other than that I don't have one.
Q. (DY): What is one hidden talent you possess?
A. (BA): Hunting and fishing.
Q. (DY): What is your favorite quote?
A. (BA): Ephesians 6:17 "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the sprit, which is the word of god."
Q. (DY): What is your favorite food?
A. (BA): Cheeseburgers and pork chops.
Q. (DY): Who is your biggest role model?
A. (BA): My dad, because he was the one that started me with basketball.
Q. (DY): What's your dream school?
A. (BA): Kentucky.
Q. (DY): Who is your dream coach?
A. (BA): Billy Donovan.
Q. (DY): Whose game do you model yours after?
A. (BA): Dirk Nowitzki.
