The 2017 class is shaping up to be extremely solid with a lot of talented freshman to be. Kentucky Preps will be taking a look at some of the best freshman to be in a series called Freshman Spotlight. We'll be asking each of the players 20 questions to get to know some of them as they start their high school career.
2017 Bullitt East Guard Jared Osborne averaged 19 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists per game last season at Zoneton Middle School. He followed that up by averaging 12 points and 3 assists per game with Indiana Faith before leaving them in April to get ready for his first high school season.
Q. (Donald Yaste): What High School will you be attending?
A. (Jared Osborne): Bullitt East High School.
Q. (DY): How has this Summer prepared you for this coming high school season?
A. (JO): I have worked really hard to get stronger and be more physical this summer. Being in the gym everyday has helped with that.
Q. (DY): What expectations do you have for yourself going into this high school season?
A. (JO): Just to improve and help my team in any way I can as a freshman.
Q. (DY): What are your expectations for your team?
A. (JO): We are going to surprise people. We lost a lot from last year, but we have a lot of talented players back.
Q. (DY): What is your current height and weight?
A. (JO): I'm 5'9 145 pounds.
Q. (DY): Describe your style of play?
A. (JO): I like to push the ball and get in open spaces to create for my teammates, but if a defender is playing back, I want to make him pay.
Q. (DY): What are you strengths?
A. (JO): My IQ and ability to score from anywhere.
Q. (DY): What are your weaknesses?
A. (JO): I have to get stronger and faster. It's something that I've worked on every day, it's coming.
Q. (DY): What do you hope to accomplish through playing basketball?
A. (JO): Hang some championship banners at Bullitt East, get a free college education and see the world.
Q. (DY): Have any colleges reached out to you at this point? If so who?
A. (JO): I've been lucky enough to talk to a couple of coaches, but nobody is on me yet.
Q. (DY): What is your greatest fear?
A. (JO): Never being known.
Q. (DY): What is your best characteristic?
A. (JO): I care more about winning than scoring points.
Q. (DY): What is your nickname and how did you get it?
A. (JO): Red Velvet. I used to try and do Jason Williams dribbling tricks when I was in the 6th grade, but instead of White Chocolate, somebody thought Red Velvet fit better. Coach Hunt calls me Gingy.
Q. (DY): What is one hidden talent you possess?
A. (JO): I can pretty much repeat any line from any movie I've seen.
Q. (DY): What is your favorite quote?
A. (JO): Today is a gift, that's why its called the present.
Q. (DY): What is your favorite food?
A. (JO): Pizza.
Q. (DY): Who is your biggest role model?
A. (JO): Jimmer Fredette.
Q. (DY): What's your dream school?
A. (JO): Butler.
Q. (DY): Who is your dream coach?
A. (JO): Coach K.
Q. (DY): Whose game do you model yours after?
A. (JO): Stephen Curry.
