The 2017 class is shaping up to be extremely solid with a lot of talented freshman to be. Kentucky Preps will be taking a look at some of the best freshman girls to be in a series called Freshman Spotlight. We'll be asking each of the players 20 questions to get to know some of them as they start their high school career.
2017 Eastern Guard Natalie Collins played at all three levels (freshman, JV and varsity) last season for Christian Academy of Louisville. She followed that up by playing with Kentucky Premier this Summer. She is already hearing from EKU, NKU and Bellarmine.
Q. (Donald Yaste): What High School will you be attending?
A. (Natalie Collins): Eastern High School.
Q. (DY): How has this Summer prepared you for this coming high school season?
A. (NC): I was able to play against older girls with different playing styles.
Q. (DY): What expectations do you have for yourself going into this high school season?
A. (NC): To earn my spot on varsity.
Q. (DY): What are your expectations for your team?
A. (NC): To play together to win a state championship.
Q. (DY): What is your current height and weight?
A. (NC): I'm 5'10", 151 lbs.
Q. (DY): Describe your style of play?
A. (NC): I'm a shooter and I can also get to the lane and either finish or kick it out or dump it down.
Q. (DY): What are you strengths?
A. (NC): I play hard, I understand the game and I'm able to find my teammates in the open court.
Q. (DY): What are your weaknesses?
A. (NC): I need to work on finishing with contact and being in deny when the ball is one pass away.
Q. (DY): What do you hope to accomplish through playing basketball?
A. (NC): Go to college and possibly play professionally.
Q. (DY): Have any colleges reached out to you at this point? If so who?
A. (NC): Yes, I've been on the phone with EKU, NKU and Bellarmine. I've also received mail from a lot of other schools.
Q. (DY): What is your greatest fear?
A. (NC): A career ending injury.
Q. (DY): What is your best characteristic?
A. (NC): I've been told I'm fun to be around.
Q. (DY): What is your nickname and how did you get it?
A. (NC): Most people call me Nat now because Natalie is too long of a name to yell on the court.
Q. (DY): What is one hidden talent you possess?
A. (NC): I love to play volleyball. I just don't have time for it right now.
Q. (DY): What is your favorite quote?
A. (NC): Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.
Q. (DY): What is your favorite food?
A. (NC): Everything!
Q. (DY): Who is your biggest role model?
A. (NC): Jesus.
Q. (DY): What's your dream school?
A. (NC): I'd rather not answer that question now that recruiting has started.
Q. (DY): Who is your dream coach?
A. (NC): Pat Summitt.
Q. (DY): Whose game do you model yours after?
A. (NC): Monica Wright who plays for the Minnesota Lynx.
